A brand new park is being kick-started by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates in Dallas, Texas, around the Trinity River. The park will be the biggest Urban Nature Park in America, 10 times bigger than New York’s Central Park. The park is being put into place to fix the floodplain issue of the area and to create a stunning preservation for the community to enjoy.
The design aims to protect Dallas from major flood events, which have proven catastrophic to the city in recent decades, according to GCR. The design will also restore ecological function and the area’s natural beauty.
The river cuts through the Great Trinity Forest, an area rich with wildlife and miles of breathtaking scenery. The new development will add onto Dallas`s already existing Nature District, which has a golf-course and several smaller parks, and will take up over 10,000 acres of land for the enjoyment of the local and national community.
The park will be accessible via a 10-minute drive from downtown Dallas. While parts of the park are already complete, other areas will start to form in the next year or two.
Funded by a generous donation of $50 million, the plan is to connect the majority of the trails in the area into 73 miles of pathways along the river and throughout the forest. Playgrounds and lawns are also being installed for the recreational use by families and locals of the area and the metropolis, which is eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Trinity River Park.
